Each year, across the nation, one event brings together entire communities to take part in the fight against cancer. The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is a time and place where people come to celebrate those who have survived cancer, remember those we've lost, and fight back against a disease that touches too many lives.

Won't you gather together a group of up to 15 family, friends, and colleagues and be a part of the Relay this year? You'll join teams from across San Jose on May 15 & 16, 2010, as they raise money for the American Cancer Society, walk the track at Willow Glen High School, play games, listen to live music, camp-out, and experience the night-time candle-led walk and reading of names of local cancer Survivors and those that have lost their lives to the disease.

Your involvement will help the American Cancer Society work toward its mission of eliminating cancer as a major health issue and will support much-needed services in your community. Thanks in part to the donations from Relay For Life and other events, the Society is saving lives, helping those touched by cancer, and empowering people to fight this disease all over the world.

For more information, and to sign up to participate in the Relay, please ...more

Each book season, the Hickelebee's staff reads their agreed upon favorites -- ranging from picture books to novels, fiction and non fiction -- to come up with a title that stands out as the one we most want to put into someone's hands -- confident in the pleasure they will get from our choice. We present them at staff meetings, talk about them throughout the days and finally, vote.

We are thrilled to announce that the Fall 2009 Hicklebee's Book of the Year Award goes to Otis by Loren Long

Otis is a special tractor. He loves his farmer and he loves to work. And he loves the little calf in the next stall, whom he purrs to sleep with his soft motor. In fact, the two become great friends. But when Otis is replaced with a big yellow tractor, he is cast away behind the barn, unused, unnoticed...until the little calf gets stuck in Mud Pond. Then there is only one tractor who can come to the rescue, and it's Otis who saves the day.

In the tradition of classics like Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel and The Story of Ferdinand, Loren Long has crafted an unforgettable new story and character celebrating the power of friendship and perseverance.

To learn more about Otis and to order it from Hicklebee's online, please click here.
